For some days now, the inhabitants of some parts of Yaoundé have been without electricity supply.
Inhabitants of the Dragage neighbourhood in Yaoundé went on their business hitch free this Tuesday 13th August 2019, but that was not the case a day before. Most business that depends on electricity was on a standstill.
Charlotte, an inhabitant who runs a beauty salon said “Since Saturday at the midday, we have been without energy”. Her hair dressing saloon situated at Carrefour régie usually opens till 8pm during weekend but that wasn’t the case of recent. “When there is no light, we did only hairdressing for which no light was needed” she added.
While those who have the means depend on power banks to charge their phones, housewives had a hard time cooking, no mill machines functioned. They had to resort to other means that do not require electrical energy.
Most homes have adopted candles and solar lamps for lighting. Some have opted for electrical generators to light up their houses and workshops.
