The Garoua II council has won the first prize of the third FEICOM National Award for Councils’ Local Development Best Practices.
Mr. Dakindo Ibrahima , Mayor of the Garoua II council received a cash Prize of FCFA 50 millions during the award ceremony in Yaounde, on 23rd August 2019.
The event was presided over by the Minister of Decentralization and Local Development , Georges Elanga Obam.
At the second position comes the United Councils for Adamawa Cities. The council got a cash prize of FCFA 20 million.
The third place is occupied by the Dschang council with the project , “treatment and valorization of solid waste”. A sum of FCFA 10 million francs goes to that council.
FEICOM National Councils’ Award : Garoua II council , making women financially autonomous
The Maroua II council distinguished itself during the third contest for the councils’ award with a project that empowers women financially.
Eight thousand women grouped into 270 associations save and give out loans to improve their living conditions , and equally generate income for the association.
Thanks to the empowerment scheme, women within the municipality have grown their businesses without financial difficulties.
The Mayor of the council Dakindo Ibrahima, says empowering women financially guarantees development .
” Women are real agents of development. Any development that doesn’t include women will fail”.
He has disclosed that the FCFA 50million cash prize will be used to implement the second phase of the project . One of the key projects is the creation of a women’s cooperative .
