Former Indomitable Lions Striker, one of the best in African football history and Media Consultant, Patrick Mboma is a candidate for the vacant post of the national head coach of the Indomitable Lions of Cameroon.
The legendary footballer and former player with French top outfit, Paris Saint Germaine made his intentions known on Canal+ Talents d’Afrique on Monday 16th September 2019.
“On July 27, I discreetly submitted my application.” Patrick Mboma said.

Since the announcement, sports analysts, football lovers and consultants, and some friends of Patrick Mboma have shared diverse views on his decision.
Some sports columnists have published articles with peoples’ opinions on Mboma’s candidacy as head coach of the Indomitable Lions.
The social media has had a field day with so many users betting for the football legend to grab the prestigious post.
Others think Mboma is the right choice to replace Dutch man Clarence Seedorf as the tactician of the 2017 AFCON Champions.
Former International table tennis player and Coach, Victorine Fomum said it is a welcomed move by the former Cameronian International footballer.
She thinks technically, Patrick Mboma is a good fit for the post after spending a good time of his life in the den and having a good mastery of the game of football.
Victorine Fomun is confident that Mboma has the aura ,the intelligence and of course a patriotic feeling for his country Cameroon.
‘I think it is time for Cameroonians to be able to manage their affairs especially football, we have a college of local coaches in Cameroon who have proven their worth, think and act Cameroon’
She wanders if the former player has been certified as a coach or if he has done refresher courses in coaching.
The Head Coach of the Handball Lionesses, Perpetue Forsuh is a positive with Mboma’s choice.
She says Mboma is a former high profile player who masters the play style and mentality of players.
To go by her words, Mboma is one of the most disciplined players Cameroon has ever had and his presence in the den will encourage team spirit and subsequently good results.
A Sports journalist and writer, Henry Nwana thinks Mboma is a good leader for the team because of his mastery and expertise in football as a player and as a consultant.
To him, Mboma has proven as a good observer of the management of football in Cameroon and understands the football landscape in the country.
Many others have made calls for the recruitment of a local coach while others just believe on professionalism no matter the nationality of the to be Head Coach.
Who is Patrick Mboma
Patrick Mboma, 48, is former Cameroon football striker who ended a 9 year career with the Indomitable Lions in 2004 but continued playing football till retirement in 2005.
The former all-time top goal-scorer for the Cameroonian national team counts 33 goals in 57 matches for Cameroon.
He is winner of the awards of the 2000 African footballer of the year and BBC footballer of the year amongst many other distinctions.
Just to recall that, the team has been without a coach since August 2019. The former Coach Clarence Seedorf and his Deputy, Patrick Kluivert were shown the door after their failure to see Cameroon through to the round of 16 at the 2019 AFCON in Egypt.
