Lawyers strike: Franck and fruitful discussions between Bar Council and Ministry of Justice

The discussions to dissolve tensions following professional concerns expressed by Avocats in their resolution of 31st August concerning threats to boycott court hearings all over the national territory from the 16th to 20th  September 2019.

The in – camera and cordial deliberations was chaired by the Minister Delegate at the Ministry of Justice, Jean De Dieu Momo. DUirng discussions both parties were agreed on the important role played by the lawyers to uphold the credibility of the judicial system in Cameroon and the independence of the judiciary.

The advocates through the voice of the President of the Cameroon Bar council Barrister Tchakounte Patie Charles reaffirmed the obligation of the council to defend the values of the legal profession and to protect the dignity of lawyers in the discharge of their noble and challenging duties.

He was unequivocal that actions taken by the Bar Council are apolitical and the Bar Council will not tolerate politically motivated agitations within its ranks.

Barrister Tchakounte Patie Charles said the wise men of the legal profession will work in synergy with the government to guarantee the role of law and proper dispensation of the legal practice in Cameroon.

The Minister Delegate at the Ministry of Justice, Jean de Dieu Momo reassured the members of the highly respectable corps of the country’s judicial chain of government’s high esteem for the legal profession. He said government constantly provides supports for the proper functioning of the Bar Council.

He said the government has taken cognisance of the concerns raised and measures are being put in place to provide adequate responses.

One of the measures already taken is to ensure that decentralised services ensure the restrict respect of the law.

It is expected that the Bar Council will hold a General Assembly meeting to call of the five day nationwide strike.
