Major National Dialogue: Foreign media take interest in resolutions and immediate outcome

Government’s decision to bring together sons and daughters from different political and social spheres to discuss the pressing issues has caught the attention of many foreign media.

Interest in the developments in Cameroon grew furthermore after the President of the Republic made good on his promise to appease the country through the release of a number of detainees.

Amongst the foreign media that have been reporting on the follow up of the Major National Dialogue include;

Radio France International (RFI); a number of articles and Twitter posts dealt essentially on:

  • Decentralisation and a special status for the two English-speaking regions of the country.

  • The release of 333 Cameroonians who were arrested in connection with the crisis in the North West and South West Regions.

  • The release of Maurice Kamto and other members of his party

The British Broadcasting corporation, BBC on 5th October 2019 tweeted after the Major National Dialogue.

  • The BBC in an article and tweet were also interested in the release of Prof Maurice Kamto from prison.

The Agence France Press (AFP) took interest in two issues;

  • The release of the 333 Cameroonians arrested in connection to the crisis in the North West and South West Regions.

  • The release of Prof Maurice Kamto.
