2019 International Badminton Open: Host, Cameroon fails to win gold

The 2019 International Badminton Open in Cameroon has just ended with the host, Cameroon not recording a single medal in Gold.

 

Out of the fifty-six participants, Cameroon sent in nineteen contestants during the four day event (14th-17th November, 2019) at the Yaounde Multipurpose Sports Complex.

Amongst the nineteen were eight women and eleven men who competed in the singles, mixed and doubles categories etc

 

Cameroon leaves without a gold medal

Team Cameroon, host of the just ended 3rd edition of the 2019 International Badminton Open leaves the Yaounde Multipurpose Sports Complex with just medals to her credit.

 

Cameroonian Madeleine Carene Leticia Akoumbe Ze and Leaticia Guefack Ghomsi struggled to grab two silver medals for Cameroon after migrating to the finals in the women’s double category against the Egyptian pair Doha Hany – Hadia Hosmi.

 

 

The other two medals in Bronze were won in the men’s doubles by Henri Michel Assembe and Felix Dureil Nkomono Bengono due to their participation at the semi-finals. The Cameroonian bronze medalists were defeated by a Nigerian duo Godwin Olofua and Anuoluwapo Juwon Opeyori.

 

Cameroon has had a very difficult run at the 2019 Badminton going some days without a single win in the various games.

The first ever win for Cameroon was by forfeit, a win recorded due to the absence of the Congolese duo on day-1.

Another difficult moment for the host, Cameroon was noted at the finals of the competition, only two Cameroonians were up on the list at the level of the women’s double; Madeleine Carene Leticia Akoumbe Ze and Leaticia Guefack Ghomsi.

In a total of five competitions at the finals, Egypt was represented in three courts.
