Gouache Landslide: Families Of Affected Area Receive Government Aid

Some 141 families affected by the Gouache Landslide in Bafoussam have received material and financial aid from the government of Cameroon this Tuesday November 5, 2019.

The Minister of Territorial Administration Paul Atanga Nji was President Paul Biya’s special envoy to Bafoussam to ensure the government’s support reaches the victims of this natural disaster.

Minister Atanga Nji explained that government is resolute in relocating the people of the Gouache risks zones, to a different area.

He said the assistance the government is giving them is to sustain them temporally before resettlement to a new site.

The Spokesperson for the victims thanked the government for the prompt intervention since the disaster occurred.

He also thanked President Paul Biya for the disbursement of 200 million CFAF to help them relocate and bury those who died in the tragic incident.

Shortly after donating the government assistance to victims, the Minister of Territorial Administration, presided over a meeting to ensure that the 200 million CFAF, disbursed by the President of the Republic Paul Biya is used for the intended purpose.

This comes as some unscrupulous individuals are coming forward to claim corpses in order to make gains off the calamity.

Minister Atanga Nji has insisted on the services of the Attorney General of the West region in distributing the funds, especially those involving legal issues such as marriages and next of kins.

The victims of the landslide are currently lodging in facilities provided by some elites of their local community, until construction works on the 17 hectares of land in the Bamegoun chiefdom is ready for occupancy.
