The African Union Election Observation Mission- AUEOM has said the electoral process of the Legislative and Municipal elections was calm and peaceful aside isolated cases in the crisis regions.
H.E Seiny Oumarou, Mission Cordinator of AUEOM issued a statement on the entire electoral process during a press conference in Yaounde on February 11, 2020 .
AUEOM also applauded the elections governing body, ELECAM and the government for the smooth organization of the polls, in accordance with the law.
” The ELECAM made commendable efforts to inform, sensitize and educate voters. ELECAM ‘s efforts were buttressed by those of the Ministry of Territorial Administration both at central and local levels”. AUEOM
As for the polling officials, AUEOM states that they were professional in the discharge of their duties as no interference in the work of observers or party agents was reported.
The voting and counting procedure is equally reported to have recorded no major incident. AUEOM notes that security was also tightened, with an evidence of security forces in most polling stations visited.
The AU Observation Mission however, calls on all electoral stakeholders to adopt measures to step up participation in subsequent elections .

The AUEOM, headed by H.E Seiny Oumarou, Former Prime Minister of the Republic of Niger was deployed to Cameroon by AU Chairperson, Musa Faki Mahamat, on the invitation of the Cameroonian Government.
All the 34 election observers are drawn from the Pan African Parliament ( PAP), the AU Commission, Election Management Bodies (EMBs), Civil Society Organization, and Electoral Experts from 27 AU Member states.
The deployment of AUEOM to Cameroon ties with the African Charter on Democracy, Elections and Governance as well as the 2063 Agenda which envisages an “Africa of good governance, democracy, respect for human rights, justice and the rule of law”.
