Coronavirus: Two suspected cases in Cameroon test negative
Two persons suspected to have contracted the deadly Coronavirus in Cameroon have tested negative.
The Public Health Minister, Manaouda Malachie disclosed the information in a release made public on February 19, 2020.
According to the communique, both persons were quarantined at the Yaounde Central Hospital Isolation Unit , while screening went on at the Cameroon Centre Pasteur.
At the end of the screening process, both suspected cases tested negative, and were declared free of the deadly virus.
This result confirms that the only national who has contracted the virus is the Cameroonian student at Yangtze university.
More Vigilance
In the wake of this event, the Minister has told medical personnel at entry points to reinforce preventive measures, and report any suspected cases to the right quarters.
Travelers from other countries especially China, are expected to immediately consult medical authorities for close monitoring.
Those who have been in contact with a sick person or present with flou-like symptoms, as well as cough and fever in the previous 14 days before the start of the disease , should call 1501.
All travelers will also be subjected to the tracking system set up recently.
A health form for personal information including names, residence, and other vital information is also available at entry points.
The Minister also reminds Cameroonians to maintain good hygienic practices, to prevent the importation of the virus into Cameroon.
