IDPs Defy Lockdown to Get Humanitarian Assistance

Internally displaced persons in the North West Regional capital of Bamenda defied calls for ghost town this Saturday, February 8, 2020 to collect their Emergency Humanitarian Assistance package offered by the President of the Republic.

Two hundred of them received a variety of food stuff and basic household items at the esplanade of the Governor’s office.

Each beneficiaey also received a financial package for the transportation of the items.

The emergency humanitarian assistance package was distributed under the supervision of the Secretary General of the NW Governor’s office.

So far, more than a thousand IDPs have received humanitarian assistance in one week of distribution in front of the Governor’s office.

A few kilometers away, at mile 4 Nkwen, in the Bamenda III sub division, the Divisional Officer, Clement Sone, also distributed a variety of items to one hundred IDPs at the esplanade of the DO’s office.

The DO assured them that those who have not been served this time should register at his office in view of the next consignment.

He added that the current distribution is the third since the end of the Major National Dialogue, and over a thousand families have benefited.

During each of the distribution exercises this Saturday, the IDPs were also called upon to go out massively and vote during the February 9, twin municipal and legislative elections.

The beneficiaries expressed gratitude to the government, indicating prior to the exercise, that, they were sleeping on the floor but the mattress and other items will greatly improve their welfare.
