COVID-19: No positive case in the North West region

The North West Region of Cameroon is one of the five regions in the country with no active case of the fast spreading coronavirus, the COVID-19.

Contrary to earlier reports this Tuesday March 7, 2020 that the region had recorded a first case of the virus, health officials have denied while cautioning the population to stay calm.

According to the North West Regional Delegate of Public Health, Dr Kingsley Che Soh, the lady in question has not been to the region since her return to the country in March 2020.

The Medical practitioner adds that the blood specimen of this lady was taken at the Central Africa’s Reference Laboratory, the Yaounde Centre Pasteur.

Dr Soh explains that her information sheet indicated that she is a resident of the city of Bafoussam, but an origin of the NW region.

This is why the West Regional Delegate of Public Health contacted him for further details.

In due course, the lady was contacted and she revealed she was in Douala at the time.

A similar case that sparked panic was that of a 67-year-old man who travelled to Bamenda from Bafoussam, and later died in a health unit, whereas results showed he was negative, and not a carrier of the virus.

The Health officials in the region and competent authorities say they are on the offensive to ensure that the virus is not transported into the zone.

As part of the measures to fight the COVID-19, The NW Regional Delegate of Public Health has set up  a health taskforce in Santa; the entry point into the region to check everyone especially doubtful medical cases.

He says the entrance to Widikum, Momo Division, is also under surveillance.

As at now, investigations are on to unmask the location of this lady.

In the midst of all these, administrative authorities in the North West region have imposed restrictions to ensure people stay more at home in order to limit the possibility of contamination or transmission of the COVID-19.

Worthy of note is the fact that, six regions have been affected by the virus; the Centre,  South, South West, West, East and Littoral regions.
