Bamenda : Ghost Towns Give Way To Normal Life

The first fruits of a three months campaign against a ghost city is being felt in the capital of the North West region.

The ghost town phenomenon is gradually giving way to life as usual.

Bamenda City, Mayor Paul Achobong, has expressed his satisfaction at the third month of the campaign that seeks to reduce the burden of expensive living and revive the city.

The populations and the local authorities now go about their daily activities with more serenity being an end to the fear of ghost towns since 2016.

As life gradually returns to normal housewives go about to market to get their supplies.

The Mayor of the city of Bamenda has reassured households of the continuous promotion of sales sales foodstuffs at Bamenda Motor Park.

Paul Achobong, said that he was “satisfied with the current situation marked by the resumption of economic activities which had long been paralyzed”.

The all-round mobilization saw the involvement of the local elite, administrative, religious and traditional authorities to deal with any eventuality.

The spirit of collaboration and denunciation of suspects is required to reassure the population and everyone has to regain confidence to kickout the psychosis caused by armed groups who regularly take to the streets, ransack shops and block movement of goods and people.

City mayor Paul Achobong, said the easing of government measures against the Coronavirus has further strengthened the resumption of activities and calmed the social climate.

He however acknowledged that the results are relatively satisfactory on the ground and it would be prudent to always be vigilant as the sociopolitical crisis in North West and South West regions is not yet over.
