2019/2020 Turkish Super League: Cameroonian Achille Webo, Bags Home Trophy With Istanbul Basaksehir

Former Indomitable Lion and one of the Assistant Coaches of Instanbul Basaksehir, Pierre Achille Webó Kouamo has helped the Turkish club emerge the 2019/2020 champions of the Turkish Super League with one game to spare.

Achille Webo’s side grabbed the prestigious Super Lig tittle after defeating Kayserispor 1-0 on Sunday July 19, 2020 in one but last day of action for the football season.

The crowned champion is conferred the title with a total of 69 points in 33 games, some eight-point difference with second place Konyaspor.

The 2019–20 season is İstanbul Başakşehir’s 6th consecutive season in the Süper Lig and their 30th year in existence.

The season was slated to cover a period from July 1, 2019 to June 30, 2020 but was exceptionally extended beyond June30, due to the COVID-19 pandemic in Turkey and in the world.

Worthy of note is the fact that, Instanbul Başakşehir is crowned champions of the Turkish Süper Lig for the first time in the club’s history.

The team that has one of the technical staff, Cameroonian born, Achille Webo is the only sixth club in the competition’s history to win the league title.

The head coach Okan Buruk is assisted by Cameroonian, Achille Webo and Turkish Ekrem Dag.

Achille Webo, former Indomitable Lions forward was appointed assistant coach with the Turkish top flight outfit, Istanbul Basaksehir in 2019.

He is serving in a team he spent some time with as a player alongside other Turkish clubs Fenerbahçe, Osmanlispor and Gazisehir.

During the two year sojourn with Instanbul Basaksehir, that is, 2011 – 2013, Achille Webo netted 24 times in 54 games.

Back in the lions den, the then striker was fielded in 58 matches, recording 18 goals before calling it quit.
