MINPOSTEL: Campaign Launched to Promote .cm Domain Name

The Minister of Post and Telecommunications, Minette Libom Li Likeng has launched a campaign to promote the use of the .cm domain name which represents Cameroon.

The campaign scheduled to run from July 1, 2020, to October 1, 2020, was announced in a decision signed by the Minister in June 2020.

According to the decision, registration of websites with the .cm domain name stands at 2.000 CFAF during the campaign period.

The decision also states that the sale of Cameeoon’s domain name stands at 1.000 CFAF.

Furthermore, the document indicates that the reselling of the .cm domain name should not exceed 2.000 CFAF per annum.

What Obtained Before this Campaign

Prior to this campaign, the .cm domain name stood at prices as high as 47.000 CFAF or even 100.000 CFAF, depending on the vendor.

Such high prices made many to use free or relatively cheaper domain names for their websites.

It is the hope of the Minister of Post and Telecommunications that by the end of this campaign, many Cameroonians should have acquired the Cameroon’s domain name

Advantages of Having .cm Domain Name

.cm at the end of a website indicates that the website belongs to Cameroon.

This further serves in authenticity of one’s website or products.

Moreover, most international investors and clients will prefer engaging in business deals with those whose websites are registered in their country of origin.
