Before her death, Zindzi Mandela was South Africa’s Ambassador to Denmark.
She was recently designated as South Africa’s Head of Mission in Monrovia, Liberia.
Zindzi is remembered as the person who read out Nelson Mandela’s rejection of President PW Botha’s offer for conditional release from prison in February 1985, if he denounced the violence that was carried out by his anti-apartheid movement, the Africa National Congress.
She was also known for her vocal support for land reforms in South Africa.
Born as Zindziswa Mandela, she got married to Zwelibanzi Hlongwane and later, Molapo Motlhajwa in 2013.
She leaves behind her husband and four children to mourn her.
Since her death was announced, many especially South Africans have been posting condolence messages all over social media in her honour.
I offer my deep condolences to the Mandela family as we mourn the passing of a fearless political activist who was a leader in her own right. Our sadness is compounded by this loss being visited upon us just days before the world marks the birthday of the great Nelson Mandela. pic.twitter.com/RC0YQ6VEvf
