Dr. Achille Moungang, is the first visually impaired student to have defended Doctorate thesis at the University of Yaounde II, Soa.
The thesis on the theme: “The Protection of Consumers in the Field of Advertising” was defended in front of a jury led by Professor Roger Mevoungou Nsana.
The thesis that earned the candidate his doctorate with honours was supervised by the Rector of the University of Yaounde II, Soa Professor Adolph Minkoa She.
The scientific work sought to highlight the intricacies around advertising and consumer protection.
He highlighted the mechanism to protect consumers who are generally vulnerable especially when consuming pharmaceutical products.
He however, highlighted in the thesis that despite the existence of laws that prohibit adverts on medication in Cameroon, it is still possible for consumers to get such advertising from foreign media channels coming from countries that don’t have such laws.
At the ended of two hours of exchange with the five member jury, the Rector of the University of Yaounde II, Soa expressed satisfaction with the exercise which is the first of its kind in the institution.
He said, despite the student’s physical challenges, he still pursued his post graduate studies just like every other students because the university practices inclusive education.
He urged other physically impaired students to overcome fear and embrace education which is key to a bright future.
