A 93rd minute goal from the Cameroonian Captain, Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting has helped the French Ligue 1 club, Paris Saint Germain,PSG, to migrate to the semi-finals of the prestigious UEFA Champions League for the first time in 25 years.
The striker came off the bench some eleven minutes to stoppage time and scored a 93rd-minute winner bringing a 2-1 upset and cancelling the first-half opener from Mario Pasalic’s Italian club, Atalanta.
Atalanta were the clear underdogs, but the free-scoring Italian side had the better of the first 45 minutes and justly led 1-0 at half-time.
The Paris club showed a never-say-die attitude to come back late in this quarter-final scoring two goals at the last minutes, that is, 90th and 93rd to reach the Champions League semi-finals after more than two decades.
Choupo-Moting, who was relegated from the Premier League with Stoke City two years ago, revealed he told himself to go on and make the difference after replacing Mauro Icardi in the 79th minute.
“It was a crazy game, a tough game and opponents,” he told UEFA.com. “I think we showed until the last moment that we believed in ourselves. It wasn’t easy because we had some good occasions [chances] that, unfortunately, we couldn’t score.
“When I came on, I thought to myself, ‘We can’t lose, we can’t go home like that’. I was confident in myself, confident in the team and then the rest is the history of Paris. We had a good feeling in the team. We’re enjoying good moments on and off the pitch.”
Choupo-Moting : “C’est un moment incroyable. Le jour des 50 ans du club, nous sommes en demi-finale, ce sont des émotions phénoménales.” ❤️💙 pic.twitter.com/6QO1Q96QUm
