2019 UEFA Champions League winner and the 2020 Champion of England with Liverpool, Cameroonian Joel Matip has reportedly attracted French heavyweight, Paris Saint Germain, PSG.
Team talks purportedly puts it that the 28-year-old Cameroonian international defender is at rated at £50million in case of a deal with French Club as a possible swap for Thiago Silva according to a Cameroonian football website, kick442.
The former Cameroonian and retired player from international football, Joel Matip also counts many accolades with ‘The Red’ one of them being, the squad of the 2020 FIFA Club World Cup.
As the transfer links emerged, Liverpool fans have taken to social media to urge the club to keep Joel Matip.
A supporter tweeted ‘they cannot have him’, whilst similarly another has firmly stated Matip is ‘not for sale’.
28-year old Joel Matip joined Merseyside outfit in London in 2016, on a free transfer from Schalke 04 in Germany.
The centre back defender, Matip has participated in some huge games for the Reds, including the winning side that took on Tottenham Hotspur last season in the Champions League final.
Despite the success story, the Cameroonian is often left on the bench in favour of Joe Gomez.
Joel Matip also has a history of injury problems, missing 20 matches this season through a knee problem.
When fit, and with some momentum behind him, Matip who plays alongside Virgil van Dijk and Joe Gomez has the ability to be one of the best central defenders in European football.
Just to note that, Matip played just 13 times last season due to injury and has been fielded 111 times since joining Liverpool 2016.
Excellent in the air, strong in the tackle but also very aware and superb with the ball at his feet – Matip has all the traits needed for a modern centre-back.
The Cameroonian was handed a new contract in October 2019, keeping him in England for four more seasons
