Cameroon joins the international community to celebrate the 21st edition of the International Youth Day this Wednesday August 12, 2020. The Minister of Youth Affairs and Civic Education, Mounouna Foutsou is presided over a ceremony to mark the day in Yaounde.
Celebrations marking the day took place under the theme: “Youth Engagement for global Action”
The event that was organised with technical assistance from the United Nations system in Cameroon saw the recognition of outstanding youth initiatives.
During the event the Minister of Youth Affairs and Civic Education, said weeklong activities organised in the build up to the event sought to reinforce the capacities on youth movements and associations in line with SDGs.
The Minister used the occasion to outline government’s strategy for youth empowerment. He cited the Youth Parliament, the National Youth Observatory and the National Youth Council amongst other platforms put in place by government for the welfare of young people.
The event was also marked by the award of a special recognition to Achaleke Christian and his group for their initiative to sensitise their community against the novel Corona virus and provide hand sanitizers to different communities.
The event was attended by the Minister of Women’s Empowerment and the Family and the Minister of Employment and Vocational Training.
Prior to the official ceremony, a musical concert was organised on Tuesday August 11, 2020 in Yaounde.
