In the face of recent killings in the North West and South West Regions with the aid of machetes, axes and iron rods, government has restricted the use of bladed weapons in the region.
The Minister of Territorial Administration, Paul Atanga Nji on Tuesday August 18, 2020, issued an order restricting the sale, purchase and possession of machetes, axes and iron rods in the English speaking regions.
The restrictive order that has to be enforced by administrative authorities of the two regions is valid for a period of four months renewable.
According to the Ministerial order, building material store are suppose to declare and honour, the stock of 6, 8, and 10 millimetre diameter iron rods in their shops to administrative authorities.
Users on their part are expected to apply for an authorisation from the Divisional officers of their subdivisions for an authorisation to purchase, use or be in possession of a bladed weapon.
The applicants are expected to state their home address, identification details and building permit for those who want to buy iron rods.
The decision of the Minister of Territorial Administration comes less than a week after a video of the beheading of a lady in Muyuka with a machete went viral.
