Life Coaches, an Increasing Phenomenon

Personal Development Coaches also referred to as Life Coaches are professionals who specialize in helping people achieve specific goals and overcome obstacles to personal growth.

Life coaches are becoming more popular especially in these changing times.

Their presence has even gotten more evident with the digital age. Posters and videos announcing online sessions with life coaches flood the social media on a daily basis.

Benefits of Having a Life Coach

Most people who have used the services of a life coach say they have been a valuable asset to them. The benefits include:

– Improvements in self confidence and self esteem.

– Better performance at work

– Better time management

– Improved wellness

– Reduced stress

– More income

– Success in overcoming a bad habit

– Better relationships, communication and interpersonal skills.

– Improved personal organisation.

Becoming a Life Coach

Just like the argument on who is a motivational speaker, that of who is a life coach is also rife.

Some argue that just anyone moves up to say he or she is a personal development coach.

The President of Coach U, one of the largest training organisations, Jennifer Corbin explains that many people who provide coaching actually do not know what coaching is.

It is worth mentioning that there are some coaching organisations.

There is also an International Coach Federation (ICF) which accredits coaching organisations.

Furthermore, a coaching organisation in the UK, Noble Manhattan advices that in order to be a good life coach, one should complete a training programme. This involves being certified.

It adds that the coach must also enjoy working with people, have excellent communication skills, be a good listener and have interest in making a positive difference in the lives of one’s clients and oneself as well, amongst other things.

While some do not see the importance of having a life coach others argue that they are very important especially in the present context of a world filled with numerous psychological and socioeconomic challenges.
