Nyan Village In Bangem Finally Gets New Chief

His Royal Highest Chief Joseph Ekukwe Nkoke, a retired Gendarmerie Brigade Commander has been enthroned the new chief of Nyan, one of the villages in Bangem Sub-Division, Kupe Muanenguba in the South West Region of Cameroon

The custodian of the Nyan tradition classified as a 3rd class chief now bears the throne of late Chief Martin Songe Nkoko who passed on to glory in June 2013.

In a highly awaited and crowd pulling ceremony that brought together the sons and daughters of Nyan, the neighbouring populations and their chiefs, the local and administrative authorities, the Nyan culture was portrayed in all its forms.

While installing the 3rd class chief of Nyan in Bangem Sub-division, the Divisional Officer , Felix Kanga applauded the local populations for the peace and serenity that has continuously reigned in the area despite the security difficulties in the region.

The civil administration called on the new traditional ruler to reinforce vigilante groups to sustain the security and peace in Nyan and its environs.

Chief Joseph Ekukwe Nkoke who now is at the helm of the Nyan village, was cautioned by the DO to bring together all sons and daughters of the village because it is only through unity that development can be attained.

To the neighbouring chiefs and local authorities, Felix Kanga encouraged them to build synergies with their populations in the fight against insecurity in the region and in their specific areas of competences.

“I want to use this opportunity to thank the population of Bangem sub-division and Nyan in particular for the massive contributions in bringing peace in our Sub-division. Bangem says No to violence, the DO stated.”

DO Kanga reminded the population of Nyan that the Seed Multiplication Centre constructed in Nyan by the South West Development Authority (SOWEDA) is an opportunity for the youths.

He assured the villagers of development projects earmarked for the village such as the 30KV electricity project to cover some eight villages in Bangem including Nyan.

The elites of Nyan were invited to follow-up Ministry of Public Works and benefit from the Melong-Bangem road project

Cultural manifestations crowned the event which is seen as a new beginning for the village hitherto rocked by internal wrangling.

Sons and daughters of the soil like Brigadier General Ekongwese Divine Nnoko, Mayor Ekungwe Christopher Kang, Professor Awang Ollong Kinsgley, Police Commissioner Eric Ekongwese and many others took part in the life changing ceremony in Nyan
