Parliament: Members of the national Assemble Invited To Strive For Peace
The November session of Parliament has opened at the National Assembly.
The Speaker of the House chamber presided over the opening plenary that was attended by the Prime Minister – Head of Government, Joseph Dion Ngute as well as other state dignitaries.
In the lone speech at the opening session Honourable Cavaya Yeguie Djibril call on the 180 members of the National Assemble to be actively involved in the peace process in the Far North, the North West and the South West regions.
The House Speaker condemned recent killings of school children by separatist fighters in their classroom in Kumba.
He noted that the current session is opening with a context of multiple crises in the country and the world; reference to the disturbing security situation in some parts of the country and the COVID19 health pandemic.
The House Speaker also saluted the efforts put in place to government to contain the crisis.
He said despite the unforeseen moments of tribulation, Cameroon continues on its path to emergence under the leadership of President Paul Biya.
On a brighter note, Honourable commended the resilience of Cameroonians in the face of challenges such as the Corona virus pandemic and its effects on the global economy.
He also highlighted the need to hasten the putting in place of the universal health coverage and the guarantee fund for small and medium size enterprises.
The session was marked by a minute of silence in honour of the seven children killed in Kumba and members of the National Assemble who passed away during the around four months of recess.
