Audience: President Paul Biya discusses with Michel Rocard

19/02/2010

The President of the Republic has received in audience Michel Rocard, former Prime Minister of France (1988-1991). The audience which took place at State House lasted forty-five minutes.

Responding to questions from press men after the audience, Michel Rocard stated that he is in Cameroon for a private visit.  He said during the audience with the Resident of the Republic only private issues were discussed.

Speculations are rife that discussions between the former Prime Minister of France and President Paul Biya also touched on issues related to the 50th anniversary celebrations of Cameroon’s independence.

In his message to Cameroonians on Year eve, the President indicated that these celebrations would be ideal occasion to pay homage to Cameroon’s illustrious sons who sacrificed their lives for their country.

He also indicated that one of the major highlight of the celebration shall be “The Yaoundé Conference”, a forum that shall bring together great personalities from Africa and the world.

Michel Rocard who is a consultant and a friend of Cameroon definitely has some contribution to make to ensure the success of the celebrations.
