The  Minister of Youth Affairs, Adoum Garoua, has given a press briefing  to update the public about activities in his Ministry. The press briefing took place at the Ministry in the presence of Communication Minister, Issa Tchiroma and the Minister of Sports and Physical Education Michel Zoa.

For a start, Adoum Garoua announced the convening of the Cameroon National Youth Council which he says has been slated for November 2009.

In the words of the Minister, the elections of representatives of the Council would take place at the council level on the 7th or 8th of November, Divisional level on the 21st or 22nd of the same month, regional level on December 5th and national level on the 19th of December. To be eligible, members must be between 18 and 35 years of age.

The recent media outing of the Minister of Youth Affairs drew a lot of interest from the general public and media in particular as they came to hear what the road map of this hitherto obscure ministry is all about.

Without much ado, the Minister cited the numerous projects that his Ministry is involved in the alleviation of poverty in the country.

These among others include, the Programme for the Economic Development of Urban and Rural Youths commonly known as PAJUR, the Programme for the Manufacturing of Sports Material PIFMAS and the imminent re-launching of the National Civic Service for Participation.

Minister Adoum Garoua is show casing the Cameroon National Youth Council as concrete action taken by his Ministry especially at a time when the six month deadline given to government by the Head of State is gradually dwindling.

The election of this Council, according to the Minister, would herald the much talked of poverty alleviation in the country as it would serve as a platform for decision makers, donors and youths themselves to be inserted into active social and economic life.
