They identified the inability of some Magistrates to use the document as one of the reasons why its application has been plagued with some problems since it was introduced in Cameroon.

Speaking during the opening of the annual meeting yesterday, the Minister of Justice and keeper of the Seals, Amadou Ali regretted the fact that the problems encountered in the application of the code has contributed to high prison numbers.

Apart from the new criminal procedure code, the assembly also debated on the situation of human rights in 2008 in Cameroon.
