29/10/2009 The Head of State H.E. Paul BIYA received visiting Chadian President Idriss DEBY ITNO on Wednesday 28 October 2009 for intimate discussions at Unity Palace.
The Official visit of the Chadian President to Cameroon started at 4.15 p.m. when the plane bearing the august visitor rolled into position at the Nsimalen International airport. President Paul BIYA and a host of senior personalities were at the foot of the plane to welcome President Idriss DEBY ITNO. After receiving a bouquet of flowers from a charming young Cameroonian, the visiting Head of State was warmly welcomed by his counterpart and the senior dignitaries present.
President BIYA then led his guest through military honours, consisting a review of troops, saluting the flag and the execution of the National Anthem of Chad and Cameroon. They then greeted the constituted bodies before getting into the Presidential Lodge.
The huge crowd of Cameroonian and Chadian dance groups and party militants who came to the airport to welcome the visiting Head of State came alive with jubilation when Presidents Paul BIYA and Idriss DEBY ITNO emerged from the Presidential Lodge and waved to them before taking the motorcade for the drive to the Hilton Hotel.
After a brief stop to rest, the Chadian Head of State later drove to Unity Palace for an audience with President Paul BIYA. The two Heads of State will surely continue to discuss bilateral cooperation and other matters of common interest during the dinner scheduled to take place at Unity Palace later this evening.
The two Heads of State have the common priorities, such as greater security within the region, the pipeline which carries oil from Chad to the Atlantic Ocean through Cameroon, the future supply of electricity to Chad by Cameroon, agricultural projects which could be beneficial to the two countries and the common road infrastructure.
The enhancement of the infrastructure will go a long way to further regional integration, and objective which is dear to the two leaders and which should be at the centre of their discussions.
