26/11/2009 The Presbyterian Church in Cameroon (PCC) has a new moderator. He is Rev.Dr.Festus Ambe Asana. He was elected on Tuesday 24th November, during the 44th Synod, dubbed “Synod of Change” organized in Kumba.
During the forum, Rev. Professor Emmanuel Anyambod Anya, Rector of Protestant University of Central Africa who was another candidate to post, pulled out of the race at the last minute, in favour of his lone challenger.
Rev. Dr.Asana consequently got 92 votes, representing 100% from the Electoral College.
During the meeting, Rev. Abwenzoh William Membong was elected Synod Clerk after beating his lone challenger, Rev. Besong Johnson Tabe by 47 to 45 votes.
In his acceptance speech, Moderator-elect Rev. Dr. Asana talked of the urgent need for the church to be more united, transparent, and decent.
Moderator-elect Rev. Dr. Asana shall officially assume office in January 2010. He replaces Rt. Rev.Dr. Nyansako –ni-Nku, who retires in December after serving as moderator for ten years.
Dr. Festus Ambe Asana was born in Bafut, North West Region in 1948.He is the first of ten children of late Rev.David Chembe Asana and Monica Bi Asana.
He was ordained pastor in 1978. He is a father of four children, married to Mrs. Jenny Nchang, a teacher by profession.
