12/05/2010 The Executive Director of the Global Fund to combat HIV/AIDS, malaria and tuberculosis, Prof. Michel Kazachkine, has ended a two day working visit to Cameroon.
The visit was organised on the invitation of Cameroon ’s First lady, Chantal Biya. During the visit, Prof. Michel Kazachkine was guest at the 4th African Day for the fight against maternal and neonatal morality organised in Yaounde .
At the end of his visit he granted a press conference at the premises of African Synergy during which he announced that Cameroon is eligible for funding from the Global Fund to combat HIV/AIDS virus, malaria and tuberculosis in the country.
The Global Fund boss also lauded the efforts made by Mrs. Chantal Biya and the Government of Cameroon to combat AIDS through research.
Visiting Executive Director of the Global Fund to fight AIDS, Tuberculoses and Malaria, Michel Kazatchkine was earlier received in audience by Cameroon ’s Prime Minster, Philemon Yang. During the audience he assured the Head of Government that the Fund shall work with other stakeholders to qualify Cameroon for round ten of funding.
It is worth noting that Cameroon did not benefit from the global funds in 2009.
