Cameroon Chad Railway Commission maps out construction plan
The Cameroon Chad Railway Commission which is out to ensure that the railway line be extended from Ngaoundere to Djamena – Chad, met this Tuesday 16th January 2018.
The Commission was chaired by Cameroon’s Minister of Transport Edgard Allain Mebe Ngo’o in the presence of the Chadian Minister of Infrastructure and civilization.
During the session both men noted that, the extension of the rail way from Ngaoundere to Djamena will greatly contribute to the Development of both countries.
Plan to extend the railway line was put in place in 2011.
Since then, three meetings have been organised to evaluate the construction plan.
The first Commission held in 2014 in Douala, the second held in Djamena 2014 and the third in Yaounde in March 2015.
The Ngaoundere Djamena Railway extension will cover a distance of about 900km, with a cost of close to 500 billion FCFA.
So far, 3 billion FCFA has been invested in the project as part of feasibility studies.
The project is being financed by the African Development Bank.
