International Women’s Day: 2nd preparatory meeting holds

Officials of the Ministry of Women’s Empowerment and the Family (MINPROFF) and other actors met this Tuesday 13th February 2018 for the second preparatory meeting towards the 33rd edition of the International Women’s Day.

The meeting was chaired by the Secretary General of the Women’s Empowerment Ministry  Mr. Moussa Aoudou and attended by close to 300 participants from different associations.

At the Regional Delegation where the meeting held, representatives of Association presented their annual reports and expounded on projects.

The International Women’s Day that comes up on 8th March will be celebrated under the theme: “Intensify the fight against discrimination on women, strengthen partnership to speed up sustainable Development.”

The Secretary General exhorted participants to reflect on  the agenda 2030 of the UN and agenda 2063 of the African Union. Agenda 2030 agreed upon by UN General Assembly in September 2015.

The innitiative placed builds on the millenium development goals with more focus on people, planet and prosperity.

Agenda 2063, an innitiative for the socio-economic transformation of the continent over the next 50 years.

Within Cameroon Mr Moussa Aoudou called on the different actors working for Women’s empowerment to reflect on the following underlining values:

– Respect for the laws, regulations and institutions

– The promotion of peace and unity

– Respect for human rights

– Sustainable Development and patriotism

– Preservation of the harmony and stability of the family unit

– Bilingualism and multiculturalism.

Participants will be dressed on the fabric of the 33rd edition of the international Women’s Day and fabrics of previous editions shall also be authorised on the day.

Three weeks to the celebration, some 7000 women have already registered to participate in the grand march pass to take part in the Headquaters of administrative units and some villages.

The International Women’s Day  will be officially launched on 19th February 2018 at the Yaounde City Hall.

Other activities on schedule shall include round table discussions, seminars and sports march scheduled for 3rd March 2013.
