Representatives from over 65 countries have gathered to commemorate the 25th anniversary of the Market for Abidjan (formerly African) Performing Arts (MASA) and 10th edition of the MASA Festival.
The festival which runs from 10th to 17th March 2018 aims at promoting the Ivorian and African culture as a whole.
The opening ceremony took place on 10th March 2018 at the Palais de la Culture de Treichville in Abidjan, Cote d’Ivoire.
It was chaired by the Ivorian Minister of Culture and the Francophonie, Maurice Kouakou Bandaman who was representing the Prime Minister.
The Director General of the Festival, Prof Yacouba Konaté and other members of the organising comittee welcomed the different groups that
graced the occasion with traditional dances and drama display.
A major highlight of the event was Prof Fang Hiya’s presentation with a traditional Chinese violin, ‘ehru’ which left many spellbound.
Cameroonian-born Aghate Djokam also thrilled the audience with impeccable beats and dance steps.
This 2018 edition of the Masa Festival has brought in 40 music groups, seven dance groups, ten theatre troupes, four storytelling groups, two humourists, road entertainers and several exhibitors.
The exhibition village has been conceived to be a perfect representation of the African, European, American and Asian cultures.
The festival is ideal opportunity for exhibitors and visitors to avail themselves of the different cultures and exchange ideas.
