Senate: Secondary Education Minister promises a better academic year

The new Minister of Secondary Education, Pauline Nalova Lyonga has assured members of the Senate that measures to ensure a hitch free school year are being put in place.

The Minister was addressing the Senate for the first time since her appointment. The occasion was the oral question and answer session before members of the upper house of parliament.

Minister Pauline Nalova Lyonga also discussed measures put in place to improve the low success rate and attendance rate in during the present school year.

She also said adequate security measures have been put within schools premises especially in the North West and South West regions.

On an optimistic note Madam Nalova Lyonga said school attendance rate in the two regions have significantly increased and teachers and school officials are more commited.

Referring to the bad student performance especially at the 2017 General Certificate of Examination, GCE ordinary and advanced levels, the Minister said catch up classes have been organised.

Pauline Nalova Lyonga also announced the possibility of extending the deadline for the registration of candidates for official examinations to increase the chances of many.

The Minister’s presentation at the Senate comes two months to the start of official examinations.
