2018 UNIFAC Cup: Baby Lions lift trophy for a second time

The U-17 Lions of Cameroon have clinched the Central African Cup trophy, 2018 UNIFAC Cup for the second time.

The baby lions of Cameroon lifted the trophy this Thursday 12th April 20178 after edging the Democratic Republic Of Congo 1-0 at the Yaounde military stadium.

The winning goal for the boys of Head Coach Libih Thomas was scored at the 39th minute by number 11 shaded striker, Moctar Oumate.

The goal was good motivation for the Cameroon  team.

The opponents multiplied scoring opportunities but Cameroon over shadowed the DR Congo in almost every move.

The u-17 Leopards of Congo however, put up a defensive play during the second half.

The teams few advances did not pay off as  Cameroon continously held-on to one-nil advantage.

At the end of the match, cameroon lifted the highly contested trophy.

Many affirm it is thanks to the  the young Cameroonian striker,  Moktar Oumate.

The match was watched by high-value spectators including ;

-Cameroon’s Minister of Sports and Physical Education, Bidoung Mpkatt

-The President of UNIFAC.

-The Secretary General of UNIFAC, Cameroon’s Celine Eko.

-The President of the Normalisation Committee at FECAFOOT, Dieudonne Happi.

-Cameroon’s football Roving Ambassador, Roger Milla

-The Coach of the intermediate Lions, Rigobert Song.

Fans from the both camps  cheered the players to the highest tune at every instant.

Six countries of the central African region took part. These countries are  Chad, DR Congo, Congo Brazzaville, Cameroon, CAR and Sao Tome.

A number of awards were offered for outstanding performance during the competition.

-Cameroon received gold medals and a trophy as the reigning champions of the 2018 UNIFAC Cup.

-The DR Congo was awarded bronze as the Vice champions of the 2018 UNIFAC Cup

-At the third place was  Congo Brazzaville after she defeated Chad during the third position game at the Yaounde Omnisport Stadium.

-The Republic of Chad was handed the fair play trophy.

-Cameroonian born Amah Awono Louis Joël was decorated the Man of the Match.

Cameroon wins the UNIFAC Cup for the second time. The first time was in 2013 during a competion organised  in limbe.

Concidentally the baby lions thrashed the same DR Congo.
