Lawyers of the Cameroon Bar Association have solemnly opened their 2018 judicial year under the theme: Supporting African States in Infrastructure Projects: The Lawyer’s role.
Guest Speakers from Bar Associations from African and European countries took turns to expound on the theme.
The President of the Cameroon Bar Council, Barrister Nico Halle highlighted some cardinal values that a good lawyer must incarnate. He talk of moral probity, patriotic, peace loving and live an exemplary lifestyle.
Adding that values are indispensable in helping the law contribute to Africa which is potential rich but materially poor.
The President of the Cameroon Bar Association, Jackson Kamga noted within the current context of major infrastructural projects to drive the economy to emergence by 2035, the state needs to work with lawyers to better elaborate contracts and avoid the risk of long and expensive court cases.
The Minister of State, Minister of Justice and Keeper of the seals, Laurent Esso said collaboration will be enhanced between the ministry and lawyers.
The said the solemn opening of the Cameroon Bar which is in its first edition should be annual ritual.
The Minister of State, Minister of Justice and Keeper of the Seals congratulated the Cameroon Bar for the effective and efficient organization of the Bar Examination. He said the results reflect the competitiveness and prestige of the profession.
He also announced that the English version of the different OHADA texts are available and have been distributed to different jurisdictions.
