Highway accident: Five perish in Ombe, South West Region

Five people have died in a ghastly car accident which occurred on Sunday 15th April 2018 in Ombe, South West Region.

Two of the five victims David Wotany and Ekongolo Elvis have been identified as brothers to the mayor of the Buea Council Ekema Patrick.

Anyi Eugene, Market master of the Muea Market and two other persons, a builder who is family friend and the fifth person said to the husband to a Buea council staff also perished in the accident.

The victims were driving back from a birthday party in Limbe.

According to eyewitness accounts, the Mercedes car was on high speed from Limbe when it lost control.

The car made an overturn on the Ombe bridge before plunging metres down to the bank of the river.

Rescue efforts were futile as all five men died almost immediately.

The bodies were later relayed to the Buea Regional Hospital mortuary .

Reactions

Mayor Ekama Patrick expressed his grieve as he was at the Buea Hospital Mortuary to identify the bodies of the departed.

The Divisional Officer of Tiko, Asongwe Cletus who visited the accident scene decried the recurrent cases of ghastly accidents that have occurred on the Ombe Bridge.

The Ombe Bridge is located between Limbe and Mutengene.

It is presently very notorious for many tragic accidents.
