Business Magnate, Joseph Kadji Defosso dies

Cameroonian business tycoon and one of Africa’s greatest industrialists, Joseph Kadji Defosso has died at 95.

The business guru died in South Africa in the early hours of this Thursday 23th August 2018 after a protracted illness.

The late man was the  founder of the Cameroonian Union of Breweries (UCB), the leading brewery association in Cameroon.

The company controls a little over 15% of the country’s beer market. Kadji Group extends to insurance, hotels, flour milling, transit, maritime transport, sport and distribution.

The news has greatly touched Cameroon and the world of business.

Born in 1923 in Bana in the West region of Cameroon,the late billionaire started business as a teen in Douala.

In 1964 the young cameroonian business man invested in the promotion of cinamatography in Yaounde.

In 1972 he started the brewery business by creating the Cameroonian Union of Breweries (UCB), with products like King beers, Kadji Beer, K44 and special soft drinks.

Some twenty years later,his love for football motivated the creation of the Kadji Sports Academy (KSA) in Douala,a structure that has trained best footballers in the likes of Samuel Eto’o et al.

His Group Kadji is also involved in the fabrication of plastic materials (POLYPLAST), cereals and insurance business.

The late Joseph Kadji Defosso tried his hand in almost all businesses. He owned shares in the Real Estate sector with his  KADJI SQUARE ,CAURIS, HIBISCUS and BAOBAB real estate agencies.

In the education sector, the celebrated patriot created the Fu’a Toula Kadji Defosso foundation that encouraged and promoted learning.

His Distinctions

He was decorated Grand Chancellor of the Cameroonian National Order of Valour

In 2017 , Joseph Kadji Defosso featured amongst the seven multi-millionaires from Cameroon according to Chronicle Africa’s Success story magazine.

The business guru was also Mayor of Bana in the west region.

He is remembered as the owner of the first hypermarket (Kadji Square) in the CEMAC zone.

The hypermarket contributed in the creation of  new jobs, new markets for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) specializing in security, maintenance, refrigeration and air conditioning, transport, sanitary and recruitment amongst others.

Joseph Kadji Defosso was a household  name in the African continent most especially in South Africa, Kenya and many countries where he operated in hotel business, clothing, special grape fruits and many more.

His funeral programme will be announced in the days ahead.
