Presidential Election 2018: Elecam introduces landmark reforms for inclusive election

Ballot papers in brail will be introduced during the 7th October Presidential Election for the first time.

The Director General of Elections, Erik Essousse informed stakeholders during the Seventh National consultation Forum.

The meeting between Elecam and stakeholders has been organised under the theme:”Role of stakeholders of the electoral process for a successful elections.”

The President of the Electoral Board of ELECAM, Enow Abrams Egbe highlighted the role of each party in ensuring that Cameroonians exercise their civic right of voting.

Different stakeholders identified problems encountered especially those faced by the physically challenged and visually impaired .
Stakeholders recommended that ELECAM insist that political parties also include the physically challenged on their lists.

The Chairman of the Electoral Board agreed but said stakeholders need to join ELECAM educate the community on the need for an inclusive election.

The physically challenged, indigenous groups and minority communities also need information on the electoral process.

Fon Chafa of Bangolan asked to know measures put in place to protect traditional rulers and polling agents in the troubled regions.

The chairman said voting centres in some areas shall be fortified with law enforcement officiers beefing-up security.

The assembly was informed that polling materials are already in all the sub divisions in the North West and South West regions.
