2018 Presidential election: Constitutional Council in possession of results

The national commission for the counting of votes has handed over the final copy of its work to the Constitutional Council.

The compiled results of votes cast during the 7 October Presidential poll from all 360 subdivisions were handed over to the President of the Constitutional Council, Clement Atangana. All the ceremony attended by all eleven members of the council.

The Chairman of the national commission for the counting of votes, Emile Essombe indicated that two members of the commission did not sign the final report.

He said the representatives of Cabril Libii’s Universe Party in the commission; Nkou Mvondo refused the sign the final report despite taking part in deliberations.

Another member who failed to sign is Nlend Tarcicious of Akere Muna’s AFD party who was absent on the final day of deliberations.

Emile Essombe however saluted the serene atmosphere under which the deliberations prevailed. He added that by virtue of the law the commission had to finish its work on Wednesday, 17th October but they have finished ahead of the deadline.

The President of the Constitutional Council, Clement Atangana said the council will now precede with hearings of post election petitions prior to the proclamation of results.

The hearings are expected to begin this Tuesday, 16th October 2018 at 11 am at the Yaounde Conference Centre.
