Cameroon Bar Association: Barrister Tchakounte Patie elected president

Tchakounte Patie has been elected President of the Cameroon Bar Association. He was elected on Sunday, 25th November 2018 during an elective General Assembly in Douala.

The new Bar president carried the day with 1158 votes. The incumbent, Barrister Jackson Ngnie Kamga pulled out of the race , and equally withdrew as a member of the council. He was replaced by Mohammadou Soulemane.

During the elective General Assembly, Barrister Evaristus Morfaw was equally elected Bar council president. He replaces Barrister Ntumfor Nico Hale who was elected president of the Bar council in 2015.

The task ahead of the new Bar President’s

The Bar president is charged with diligently running the affairs of the council. He is the spokesperson of the lawyers, defending public opinion. It is also the prerogative of the president to preside over the council of Order and ensure the respect of ethics and deontology.

The Bar Association: A human rights advocate

The Bar association advocates for the respect of human rights and fundamental freedom in Cameroon.The council also plays an important role in upholding the rule of law in Cameroon. Since it’s creation in 1974, the organ has nurtured some of the best lawyers in the country. The Cameroon bar counts over 3500 members.
