Mimi Mefo Takombo released from detention

The journalist of the Equinox Media group has been released from detention.

Mimi Mefo Takombo was authorised to move out the the New Bell Prison in Douala by the Government Commissioner at the Douala Military Court.

According to the sheet signed by the registrar of the Douala Central Prison, the 29 year journalist was charged with propagation of false information and insults against constituted corps and civil servants.

She was taken to the detention facility on Wednesday, 7th November and liberated this Saturday, 10th November 2018.

He was held in relation to a publish on the death of a American missionary.

Since her detention, a huge number of media men and women lobbied the government for the release. Social media was one of the main platforms used to Mobilise support for the journalist.

In the absence of any official state it’s not clear if the charges have been dropped or she has been released on bail to subsequently answer to the charges before the law courts.
