2019 CAF Confederations Cup: New Stars of Douala out
New Stars of Douala has ended her journey at the ongoing CAF Confederations Cup after giving in to pressure from Gor Mahia of Kenya.
New Stars of Douala had an opportunity to sail through to the money making group stage but failed to score during the away leg game at the Limbe Omnisport.
The Douala based team paid the price for not taking their chances and was knocked out of this year’s CAF Confederations Cup following a goalless draw with Kenyan giants Gor Mahia.
One of Cameroon’s ambassadors at the ongoing CAF Cup, New Stars lacked efficiency throughout the game.
However, Coach Gerald Mbimi was proactive and made strategic changes to reinforce the defence and the attack line of New Stars but it did not pay off.
New Stars of Douala stepped up several gears and could have opened the score sheet just ten minutes into the second half when substitutes Kemajou Kemajou shot wide from close range but it went out of the pole.
Another chance came begging for the home side, this time with Nelson Moukeu but his lack composure in front of goal post failed him.
New Stars came up great at many instances but luck was not on their side.
Gor Mahia grew in belief and confidence, and reinforced her goal post defense making it a failed mission for the highly expectant Douala team.
Waves and waves of attacking threat did little to kill the resistance as Gor Mahia went on the offensive and secured a qualification into the group stages of the CAF Confederation Cup after an aggregate 2-1 win.
New Stars versatile player Laner Lakem lamented the inability of the club attacking players to capitalise on the clear-cut chances.
Cameroonian ambassadors; Coton Sport and New Stars sent parking
Sad news for Cameroonian football lovers after an early exit of the two representatives of Cameroon, Coton Sport of Garoua and New Stars both failed to migrate to the group stage of CAF Confederations Cup.
New Stars of Douala did not survive the pressure from the Kenya local heavy weight, Gor Mahia and was defeated 2-1 aggregate.
Coton of Garoua was defeated during the away and return games by Asante Kotoko of Ghana 3-1 and 2-1 respectively.
Both teams are out and can now concentrate in their 2018/2019 football season to kick off on 26th January 2019.
