2019 Youth Day: Youth empowerment projects at the lamplight

Activities gearing up for the National Youth Day on 11th February 2019 are aimed at raising awareness on the role youths have to play to the socioeconomic development of the country.

Most of these activities are embedded in the three year Special Youth Plan announced by the Head of State Paul Biya on 10th February 2015 in his address to the youth.

The special three year youth plan is a major instrument used by the State to instill more dynamism to its action to facilitate the integration of youth in nation building.

Some major projects followed up under the three year special youth plan

Falling in line with the three year special youth plan, the government created a number programmes for the integration of youth into the socioeconomic chain of development.

The Urban Rural Youth Support Programme (PAJER-U) aimed at accelerating socioeconomic integration through junior enterprises is one of them.

PAJER-U was put in place in 2007. The programme charged with youth promotion now has seventeen branches in fields like, animal breeding, esthetics, metallic works, electronics and plumbing.

The project has empowered thousands of youths between the ages of 15-35 to be independent and young entrepreneurs.

Another of the programmes is the National Youth Volunteer Programme (PNV) aimed at enhancing the skills of youths to promote personal development.

The programme was created in 2017 and targets youths with or without qualification ready to engage in a development activity.

The National Civic Service Agency for Participation in Development has been an effective programme shouldering the three year special youth plan.

The agency trains youths on two modules, civic training and technical training.

Pioneer villages have opened over the country as centres for the training of conscripts on citizenship, first aid, the consolidation of solidarity and more.

The Minister of Youth and Civic Education Mounouna Foutsou says the three year special youth plan is a gift of the Head of State Paul Biya to the Cameroonian youth which is being made a reality.
