Decentralisation : Prime Minister chairs first General Conference of Councils

The first ever General Conference of Local Councils of Cameroon has opened in Yaounde.

The conference is holding under the theme “deepening decentralisation for a new face of local councils in Cameroon”.

Prime Minister – Head of Government, Joseph Dion Ngute opened the conference attended by mayors of Cameroon’s 380 municipal councils and fourteen government delegates.

The forum is occasion for local councils officials, government and experts to discuss the best possible way of accelerating the decentralization process that has been ongoing in the country.

Council officials are stressing the need for more autonomy through adequate resources and competent man power.

Participants at the conference are working in sub- groups on the different facets of process.

The conclusions of the conference are expected to be compiled and sent to Government for immediate action.
