2019 AFCON: Ismailia ” The city of Beauty and Enchantment”

Ismailia is one of the forty-two cities that make up the Arab Republic of Egypt.

The city will for the next two weeks host Group F matches at the 2019 AFCON to kick-off on Friday 21st June 2019.

The teams programmed to field in their games in this city are Cameroon,  Guinea- Bissau, Benin and Ghana.

Located at the west bank of the Suez Canal, Ismailia is home to over 1.3 million inhabitants.

 

 

The town was founded as far back as the 1863s during the construction of the Suez Canal by Khedive Ismail the Magnificient , after whom is named

The large number of the buildings in the city were constructed by the British and the French during the colonial rule.

 

 

Ismailia has a total land surface area of 5.066 km2

In terms of education, Arabic and English are the languages  used in the learning process

It is also the home of the Suez Canal University established in 1976.

The Islamic rule of law and values prevails in this city located on the north eastern part of Egypt.

 

 

The Egyptian city is the meeting point of the International Film Festival for Documentaries and Short Films,  and the Ismailia International Folklore Arts Festival organised in June and September respectively.

Ismailia habours one of the best museums in Egypt, an edifice that attracts tourists from allover the world.

In sports, Ismailia owns the third most successful club in Egypt in the field of football.

 

 

The team enjoys brief stints at the local and international scences.

The team has won the Egyptian league three times (1967, 1991 and 2002) and the Egyptian Cup twice (1997, 2002) and the African Championship league( 1969) as first Egyptian Arab club.

Ismailia is a typical Arab world and the inhabitants eat much of unleavened bread and vegetables.

Metros and buses plus taxis are the means of transportation in the town of Ismailia.
