National Assembly : Government assures MPs of water and energy supply

Government has assured members of parliament that government is working relentlessly to provide portable water and electricity to low cost houses and in the best region.

The assurance was given during at oral questions session at the National Assembly preside over by House speaker, Honourable Cavaye Yeguie Djibril while the government bench was lead by Prime Minister – Head of Government, Joseph Dion Ngute.

Honourable Therese Ngasam took to the rostrum to scrutinise government action with a question to the Prime Minister on measures taken by government to supply water and electricity to low cost houses that are still not being used.

In his response, Prime Minister – Head of Government, Joseph Dion Ngute expounded on the different contracts signed with public utilities to render the low cost houses habitable.

The Prime Minister highlighted that fact that the houses included in the Chinese program have already been connected to the ENEO grid and occupants are expected next month, July.

“With regards to the Buea, Bamenda and Nervous sites, connection studies have been carried out and the contractualisation procedure is in progress for the supply of drinking water to the social houses.” the Prime Minister told MPs.

Honourable Deffo Umbe asked the next question to the Minister of Water and Energy, to outline measures put in place by government to supply water and energy to the West region.

Minister Gaston Eloundou Essomba detailed out the different projects in place to improve water and energy supply in the region.

He said new transmission lines are being constructed, a construction firm for the production of utilities poles in concrete material and the implementation of rural projects for the supply of energy as well as a project to construct 470 boreholes are amongst projects to boost water and energy supply in the West region.

During the session the committee on foreign affairs was handed the bill to authorize the President of the Republic to proceed with Cameroon accession to the agreement on the conservation African Irasian migratory water birds for scrutiny.

The draft bill was tabled at the National Assembly on Friday 21st June 2019 during a plenary session chaired by House Speaker, Honourable Cavaye Yeguie Djibril.
