Prime Minister Joseph Dion Ngute chair July Cabinet meeting

The Prime Minister – Head of Government, Chief Dr Joseph Dion Ngute has presided over the July 2019 cabinet meeting in Yaounde on 25th July, 2019. The meeting focused on digitalising land management, the mining sector and a report on the establishment of an Asphalt production unit in Cameroon to facilitate road construction.

Digitalising land management

The Minister of State Property, Surveys and Land Tenure, Henri Eyebe Ayissi presented a statement on the theme, Digitalising the land registration system and securing the public state land as well as land related documents to develop economic activities.

He said that the process is intended to ensure adequate protection of real estate of the public authorities and individuals. It will also facilitate the rational management of land resources.

The digitalising will also help government to secure the holders of land titles

The process will consequently ensure that the procedure for the acquisition of the land titles are regular thereby avoiding cancellation of already established land titles.

The issuance of technical documents will also be digitalised; Minister Eyebe Ayissi noted adding that   professional ethic will be enhanced so that the personnel working on the process would avoid the problems rocking the system.

The Minister was upbeat that the reforms will create conducive conditions for economic projects notably in the agricultural and mining sectors. He said it will also give more value to land certificates holders.

Capacity building in the mining sector

The Minister of Mines Industries and Technological Development, Gabriel Dodo Ndoke presented on an expose on the theme, “the achievement and prospects of the capacity building project in the mining sector (PRESCASEM)”.

He said PRESCASEM emerged in 2010 when the geological mining sector in Cameroon was at its darkest point. The project sought to alleviate the situation through the Cameroon Country Assistance Strategy (CAS) approved by the World Bank in April 2010.

The project helped to improve governance and increased Cameroon’s competitiveness. It also led to capacity building project in the mining sector and in the negotiation of funding from the International Development Association, IDA.

So far, PRESCASEM through partnership with the World Bank has helped Cameroonian experts to carryout geological mapping and geo-chemical prospecting in order to master the country’s sub soil and the availability of various minerals.

The cabinet Ministers at the meeting also discussed on the imminent construction of a bitumen production unit in Cameroon.
