MINUSCA : Cameroon deploys sixth contingent to C.A.R.

A total of 750 peacekeeping Forces and 350 form police officers constitute the 6th Battallion from Cameroon to MINUSCA have been officially handed the national flag ahead of their take off.

The 6th Contingent to the United Nations Integrated Stabilisation Mission in the Central African Republic received their attributes during a farewell ceremony at the Military Headquarters Brigade in Yaounde.

The Cameroonian peacekeepers will take over from their comrades of the 5th battalion currently in the Central African Republic.

The Minister Delegate at the Presidency in charge of Defence, Joseph Beti Assomo handed over the flag to the Commander of the contingent of Peace Keepers, Colonel Tabot Orock Samuel. The Minister reminded troops to be exemplary during their one year mandate.

He warned them that as peacekeepers they should avoid the use of force except in cases of self-defence. They should also avoid being partial and stay neutral in the CAR.

He promised sanctions to soldiers found wanting or guilty of crimes during their mission under the UN mandate while reminding that they represent Cameroon and the United Nations in the eyes of the world during the mission.

The Cameroon contingent has the principal missions of ensuring the return of peace and stability to the neighbouring country that has been in crisis for years and the impact of the crisis is felt in Cameroon through crime, cross-border raids amongst others, the Minister pointed out.

The Commander of the Battallion, Colonel Tabot Orock Samuel said that the three months of training given him and his troops in Douala under the programme, Global Peace Operations Initiative has equipped them to efficiently carry out their mission which includes, amongst others, helping the government of the Central African Republic restore an all inclusive dialogue for state authority restoration.

They will also protect under previlged persons, internally displaced persons and other vulnurable groups. They will also help the government of the Central African Republic have its full state authority over its national borders.

Cameroon is amongst the top ten contributors of troops and police units to the United Nations Multidimensional Integrated Stabilization Mission in the Central African Republic, MINUSCA.
