Major Achievements in Socio-Political Sector

The first year of the mandate of Greater Opportunities has been marked principally by the President’s quest to resolve the socio-political crisis in the North West and South West Regions. President Paul Biya has been consistent with his political ideology of peace, unity, national cohesion and living together.

In this light, President Paul Biya ordered the discontinuance of legal proceedings pending before military courts and the enventual release of detainees on trial for misdemeanour related offences committed in line with the crisis in the English speaking areas.

He also organised the Major National Dialogue, which was a forum for Cameroonians from all works of life especially those directly affected by the crisis, in seeking lasting solutions to the problems in the North West and South West regions. Amongst the proposals of the dialogue was the attribution of a special status to the North West and South West regions.

In a bid to ensure national peace and concord, the President in his usual fatherly spirit, granted clemency to the leader of the Cameroon Renaissance Movement, CRM party and his supporters who were on trail for destruction of public property, rebellion against the nation, amongst other charges.

Economic Achievements

In the economic landscape, President Paul Biya has ensured the continuity of major infrastructural projects in the country including the Yaounde – Nsimalene highway, the motorway linking Yaounde and Douala, as well as the feasibility studies to construct the Ring Road in the North West Region. The project to expand the railway line to connect the East, South and South West Regions were also validated.
