2020 Twin Election: The stakes in South West Region
The South West Region is one of the high stakes regions of the country for the twin legislative and municipal elections of February 9, 2020.
The socio-political and security situation in the region is the first challenge candidates and political parties in the political race will have to overcome before wooing voters.
The political race is expected to take place in the entire region which is administratively broken down to six divisions: Fako, Koupé-Manengouba, Lebialem, Manyu, Meme, Ndian.

Specifies of the South West Region
Fako division covers an area of 2,093 km² and a total population of 466,412 as of 2005. The capital of the division is Limbe. The cosmopolitan population from other parts of the Cameroon live harmonious with the Bakweri and other tribes. The division also host the University of Buea and the Cameroon Development Corporation, CDC plantations
Kupe-Manenguba division covers an area of 3,404 km² and in 2005, had a total population of 105,579. The capital of the division is Bangem.
Lebialem division covers an area of 617 km² and had a total population of 113,736. The capital of the division is Menji.
Manyu division covers an area of 9,565 km² and has a total population of 181, 039. The capital of the division is Mamfe. The division has a huge influx of Cameroonians who live peacefully with the Banyange and other tribes.
Meme is a division of South West Region in Cameroon that covers a surface area of 3,105 km² and has a total population of 326,734. The capital is Kumba which is a cosmopolitan town.
Ndian is located in the humid tropical rainforest zone. Its headquarters is in Mundemba and has an estimated surface area of about 6,626 km2. The mountainous areas of Ndian division are covered by sub-mountainous forests with low but irregular canopy. Pamol, Cameroon’s palm oil plantation is located in the division. The division borders the Federal Republic of Nigeria. Its mangroves and creeks dominated estuary forms a very low and indented point of contact with the sea in the Rio del Rey estuary.
